Assembly District 39 Raul Bocanegra and Richard Alarcon: Early Returns Show Bocanegra with 17 Percent Lead
In the California Assembly District 39 race, Democrat and longtime political aide Raul Bocanegra has a major lead over Democratic L.A. City Councilman Richard Alarcon. Sixty-three percent of voters back Bocanegra and 36 percent support Alarcon.
During the campaign, Alarcon had been hit with a major controversy: the longtime politician was socked with 17 counts of perjury and voter fraud by the L.A. County District Attorney for allegedly living outside of his L.A. City Council district.
Bocanegra has been chief of staff for Assemblyman Felipe Fuentes, who's often considered the worst legislator in California.
With Fuentes termed out, Bocanegra hopes to follow in his boss' footsteps.
Alarcon's longtime political career may soon come to an end.
