Artwalk Clash Erupts as LAPD Faces Off With Occupy L.A. Downtown

Cops stood off with crowd members at Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk tonight. Reports, including our City News Service feed, indicated that some of the members of the masses were from Occupy L.A.
The Los Angeles Times reported that two officers suffered minor injuries, and the paper said as many as 12 people were arrested as cops formed a skirmish line with folks at 5th and Spring streets during the otherwise peaceful monthly party night downtown.

Rocks and bottles were reportedly thrown and streets downtown were closed.
Although Twitter accounts said Occupiers were writing in chalk during the festivities, the issue seemed to be civil disobedience vis-a-vis the law.
Some Occupy members were calling the protest "chalkwalk" and claimed that cops were overreacting as a result of chalk art in or on the streets.
Blogdowntown reported that rubber bullets and tear gas were employed in crowd-control efforts.
ABC Eyewitness News' coverage of the festivities showed officers in riot gear cordoning off Spring Street.
Reports also indicated someone was hit with a skateboard so hard that paramedics were called.
