Announcement Scheduled In Case Of Four Men Gunned Down In Valley Village

Los Angeles police on Friday scheduled a 4 p.m. news conference to announce an update in their investigation of the homicides of four men who were gunned down Saturday inside a Valley Village restaurant.

The downtown conference is scheduled to include some heavy hitters, including U.S. Attorney in Los Angeles Andre Birotte, U.S. Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms Special Assistant in Charge Christopher Shaefer, representatives of the U.S. Secret Service, Los Angeles police Chief Charlie Beck, City Council member Paul Krekorian, Los Angeles police Robbery-Homicide Division commander Kevin McClure, and FBI agents.

It's not clear, however, if a major announcement is planned: Authorities will distribute new pictures of the victims and reveal "new details" about the attack, perhaps in a plea for witnesses to come forward.

The inclusion of the U.S. Secret Service in the investigation is an interesting development all by itself: While the agency is best known for its protection of the U.S. president, it also has jurisdiction over counterfeiting crime.

The four were killed while eating after having attended a funeral. Authorities have speculated that Armenian organized crime could be connected to the homicides, but no solid leads have come to light so far.
