When you're an alleged drunk driver who leaves his seriously ill pit bull at the side of the road, cops really want to bust your ass.
And that they did. Today the Culver City Police Department announced that Thomas Naylor this week pleaded no contest to animal cruelty and was sentenced to serious time:
He got one year in county jail and three years of formal probation. Sounds like earlier charges of drunk driving, driving without a license and witness intimidation were dropped as part of a plea deal.
On 11:46 a.m. (happy hour) on July 12, witnesses saw Naylor, allegedly drunk, pull over at Washington Boulevard and Inglewood Boulevard and dumped the pooch, named Cruiser, which was "severely ill," the CCPD stated.

Naylor fled, and arriving cops scooped up Cruiser and took him to an animal hospital, where he received emergency care and was stabilized in critical condition, police said.
Later that day, officers tracked down Naylor and arrested him on suspicion of animal cruelty, according to the department.
As part of his deal, the convict cannot own a pet. And he has to pay for those animal hospital bills. Jerk.
Cruiser, by the way, is back on his feet and will be released to an animal rescue organization for adoption, cops say.
