7 Marijuana Dispensaries in L.A. Told by City Attorney to Shut Down or Face Major Fines
Seven marijuana dispensaries in L.A. were being pushed to close down after the City Attorney's office announced it has filed lawsuits against the pot shops for allegedly operating illegally.
The businesses are not zoned for medical cannabis sales, the City Attorney's office argues.
The city wants a the court to grant injunctions to shut the operations down. It also wants the owners of the properties to kick out the pot shops. The targeted retailers include:
Cancare Collective CA11 (11120 Burbank Blvd.), Golden Triangle Collective (2626 S. Figueroa St.), Cahuenga's the Spot (3200 Cahuenga Blvd.), Natural Ways Always (10006 ½ National Blvd.), Westside Green Oasis (11924 Jefferson Blvd.), BB Collective (12515 Venice Blvd.) and Helping Hint (13614-616 Victory Blvd.).
City Attorney Carmen Trutanich:
With these lawsuits, the City of Los Angeles is sending a clear message that we will no longer allow property owners to turn a blind eye to illegal activity. The City Attorney's Office will continue to be proactive in shutting down those businesses that insist on operating illegally in this City.

The suits seek to halt sales, distribution, storage or even "giving away of marijuana," according to the City Attorney's office.
What's the possible damage?
As long as they keep operating, the dispensaries and the property owners who rent to them could each see $2,500 a day in civil penalties, $25,000 each for allegedly violating the state's Narcotics Abatement Law, and $2,500 in additional fines for allegedly violating California's Unfair Competition Law.
