1 Killed, 5 Injured at Pre-BET Awards Parties in L.A.
One person was killed and five others were injured in weekend violence at two separate events billed as unofficial pre-BET Awards parties.
Early Sunday gunfire broke out at Monalizza Restaurant and Banquet Hall at 1161 N. Vermont Ave. in East Hollywood, according to police and reports.
Los Angeles Police Department Officer Drake Madison told us five people were hit by gunfire:
One victim died at a hospital, he said. Two others were taken by ambulance to a hospital where they were in stable condition, Madison said. The other two got private rides to a hospital and their conditions were not known, he said.
Police believe one shooter was responsible for 5:17 a.m. the mayhem, Madison said. The suspect was still on-the-loose.
The first outbreak of violence happened about 8:50 Saturday night at Lure Nightclub at 1439 Ivar Ave. in Hollywood, according to police and reports.
Madison said a stabbing victim in his 30s suffered a puncture to his stomach as well as a laceration to the same area. The man was hospitalized in stable condition, he said.
No information on that at-large suspect was available.
TMZ reported that the Lure party was hosted by Meek Mill and attended by The Game and other rap luminaries.
The BET Awards happened last night at Nokia Theater downtown.
