Tuesday Night in LA: Matthew Sweet & Susanna Hoffs (MP3), Delta Spirit's Matt Vasquez, Counting Crows at the Greek
Susanna Hoffs and Matthew Sweet
On Matthew Sweet & Susanna Hoffs' new Under the Covers 2, the pair tackle classic 1970s rock tunes by, among others, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Grateful Dead, Carly Simon and, in a daring maneuver, prog rock band Yes ("I've Seen All Good People"). The pair gig the Grammy Museum tonight, where they'll play music from the disc.
Here's an outtake MP3 from the new CD:
Christina Courtin, new to the excellent Nonesuch Records roster, plays Largo. Writes the Weekly's Falling James: "Most performers recording their debut album don't get to work with seasoned musicians like keyboardist Benmont Tench (Tom Petty), pedal-steel whiz Greg Leisz (Dave Alvin, Bill Frisell), guitarist Jon Brion (Fiona Apple) and guitarist Marc Ribot (Tom Waits), but the young New York singer-songwriter was able to cajole these and other luminaries to adorn her self-titled CD on Nonesuch with subtly sublime touches."
Who knows what the hell is going to happen tonight at the Greek? It's the Traveling Circus and Medicine Show, featuring Counting Crows, Michael Franti & Spearhead, and Augustana. In a note on the website to fans contemplating chilling with a fatty and a glass of wine before the show, the Circus/Medicine Show reminds you that the show STARTS PROMPTLY at 7 p.m. Get there early.
