Tonight: Quality Chilean Hip Hop Princess Ana Tijoux at Little Temple

[From our LA Weekly music newsletter, for which you should sign up ASAP:]

Though she has five albums to her name--plus collaborations with Bajofondo and Control Machete, and plenty of praise--Chilean rapper Ana [or Anita]Tijoux is only just making her U.S. debut. After playing a handful of SXSW showcases in Austin, she arrives in Los Angeles for a pair of intimate gigs celebrating the stateside release of her latest LP, 1977. This collection of Native Tongues-inspired throwback rap seeks introspection over outwardly directed aggression. In truth, Tijoux has a lot to think about--she was born and raised in France after her father fled his native Chile in order to escape the oppressive reign of Augusto Pinochet. Her storied life and her 12 years of music-making provide enough material to make catching both shows--at Little Temple tonight and at La Cita tomorrow --a worthy endeavor.
