Tonight: Odd Future, Faith No More, Eve 6, Train, John McLaughlin, the Grouch

The headline earlier this month in the New York Times read: "Young, Gifted and Outrageous: Can Odd Future Survive Popularity?"

Which is a fair question.

The outrageous L.A. hip-hip crew whose unabbreviated moniker is Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All has seen its profile spike dramatically over the past few months -- moreso in the past couple of weeks since the Weekly got some hang time. After a gig in New York City earlier this month, the collective headed up by Tyler, the Creator (with Jasper Dolphin, Domo Genesis, Matt Martians of the Super 3, Left Brain, Mike G, Hodgy Beats, Taco, Syd and Earl Sweatshirt) is a certifiable phenomenon.

Their brand of shock rap may have a lot of people navel-gazing, but the kids seem to know what's going on. While announcing their local show tonight, they posted:

"I Would Have Mom Purchase These Tickets NOW! Because All The Faggot Label Heads And Magazine Writers And Bloggers Are Going To Snatch These Up, And It's Nothing More Annoying That People At The Show That's Not There Because They Love The Music And Live For That Shit; They're There Because They Want A Fucking Raise. All These People Are Pedophiles And They Just Want To Fuck Us."

Yes, the Echo should be pumping tonight.

Other highlights: The Grammy Nominations concert goes off at Club Nokia, featuring Justin Beiber, B.o.B., Miranda Lambert, Bruno Mars and Katy Perry. (Train plays a later show at the venue at 10 p.m.) ... Rock trio Eve 6 -- its first album since 2003 ready to be released next year -- plays its first L.A. show in two years at the Troubadour. ... And 68-year-old jazz guitar legend John McLaughlin brings his band, the 4th Dimension, to UCLA's Royce Hall.

Also: Night 2 of Faith No More at the Palladium; Lazer Sword and Ages at the Airliner; the Grouch and Brother Ali on the "How the Grouch Stole Christmas" tour at the El Rey Theatre; the Abyssinians; Jon Anderson (of yes) at the Orpheum; the Expendables at the House of Blues; Miracle Parade and Pierre De Reeder at the Silverlake Lounge; STS9 at the Roxy; Cisco Adler & the Pigeons at On the Rox; Wings Like Weapons at the Viper Room; Ballerina Black at Club Moscow at Boardner's; Lost Lake at the Mezzanine at the Alexandria Hotel; Lucy Woodward and Sonos at the Hotel Cafe; Danny Burns at the Mint; and Love Sick Elephant at the Redwood Bar.
