Tonight: Fool's Gold, Dirty Projectors, All for the Hall benefit, Chinese White Bicycles, Jim Jones Revue
You almost wonder what Fool's Gold can do for an encore.
The L.A.-based purveyors of pop and world-beat jambalaya have now toured the globe with their songs for a multinational, friending (in the true sense) the likes of Malian musical rebels Tinariwen and challenging the conventional notions of world music. Fool's Gold's debut album has been out only a year, but they've gone from zero to the Hollywood Bowl (where they performed in June) in nothing flat.
Singer Luke Top, guitarist Lewis Pesacov and mates have seen their music infiltrate the national dialogue in big and little ways -- yes, "Nadine" is now bumper music for a radio show -- and tonight's homecoming show at the Troubadour, their first club gig in L.A. in 2010, should be a fine celebration.
