Tompkins Square to Issue Previously Unreleased 1967 Tim Buckley Live Set

Respected New York folk label Tompkins Square will release CD and vinyl versions of previously unreleased Tim Buckley tracks this coming Tuesday. The set, called Tim Buckley - Live At The Folklore Center, NYC - March 6,1967, features the LA native, who died in 1975, stripped down with just acoustic guitar. It was recorded a few months prior to him beginning work on his seminal second album, Goodbye and Hello, which twisted folk song structures and vocals into realms previously unvisited.

These days Tim Buckley is best known as the father of the late singer Jeff Buckley; it's a testament to the son's influence that he was able turn the tables like that. Long before Jeff ascended in the musical ranks, Tim was revered in the avant folk circles; before his son's untimely death, the father's most notable creations were his orchestrated folk albums. If you like the way that Jeff Buckley stretched and pushed his voice, his father's work will appeal to you (even if Jeff always disavowed that influence; apparently Tim wasn't in his life much). And anyone who doubts that talent and inspiration is, in part, genetic need to look no further than Jeff and Tim for proof.
