The Troubadour to Angry Badly Drawn Boy Customers: No Refund for You!
[NEW UPDATE, 12/21/2010: Badly Drawn Boy Finally Apologizes to LA Audience for Troubadour Meltdown.]
Last week Badly Drawn Boy (aka, Damon Gough) came to Los Angeles to "play" a "show" at The Troubadour. Things did not go well (read all about it here and here). The short version: he had an onstage meltdown and called members of the audience the C-word that rhymes with "runt." A lot of people walked out and others endured more abuse from the performer before he decided to play some songs and finish the performance. So some of those irate people tried to get their money back from the Troubadour. Here's the answer they got:
"We here at The Troubadour wanted to send something out to you, attendees of the Badly Drawn Boy concert on Thursday December 16th, acknowledging that some of you were offended by the "quality" of the performance and by some things that were said by the artist during the show. Although the artist temporarily left the stage early in the night, he returned a few minutes later to perform a full 90 minute concert thus upholding his contractual obligations and received the contracted compensation for his performance therefore making us unable to issue any refunds for this show.
While we support an artists right to free speech and their artistic expression, we do not always agree with what they have to say, sometimes even fiercely disagreeing. We are proud of our programming and have been presenting high quality concerts for over 50 years and as is the nature of live performances, sometimes the unexpected happens...We genuinely apologize to anyone who was offended.
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year
The Troubadour Family"
What do you think? Were people entitled to a refund? Was Badly Drawn Boy entitled to his cut after behaving like a Badly Tempered Infant?
