The Sonic Manipulator is Australian musician Claude Woodward. He plays instruments of his own invention, like the Claude-a-tron (sounds like a theremin, but operates with a joystick) and the rap rod (a glow-stick styled piece that mimics the sound of scratching records), on street corners and in clubs while dressed in a neon trimmed space suit.
We caught The Sonic Manipulator out on Vine St. in front of Avalon last Saturday night. His performance was part of Damian Lazarus' Rebel Rave Tour. After serenading party people with unusual sounds as they stood in line, he hit the stage for a collaborative performance with Lazarus.
