The Broad announced its first summer programming series this morning, including a monthly event called "Nonobject(ive): Summer Happenings," which will feature live music and DJ sets from a very cool collection of cutting-edge artists, including Richard Hell, Perfume Genius, Julianna Barwick and The Haxan Cloak. The late-night series will incorporate dance, performance art, video installations and other media and take place in various locations both within the museum and on its outdoor plaza.
The series begins June 25 with an evening inspired by the Broad's Cindy Sherman special exhibition, featuring performances by chamber-pop provocateur Perfume Genius, masked performance artist Narcissister and electronic producers Lotic and Cindytalk. Other nights in the series will include a collaboration between punk legend Richard Hell and U.K. experimental drone producer The Haxan Cloak (July 30); Rostam Batmanglij, formerly of Vampire Weekend, making his solo West Coast debut with dancers and a string quartet (Aug. 20); and a celebration of rave and club culture featuring British electro-pop subverter Sophie and the lush vocal loops of Julianna Barwick (Sept. 24).
There also will be a biweekly film series, "Doll Parts," also based on the "Cindy Sherman: Imitation of Life" exhibition, which will include a rare screening of Office Killer, Sherman's only feature film. For a full list of the Broad's summer programming, visit thebroad.org/programs.
