As the temperature rises, the albums coming out of California this spring and summer are pretty hot too.
From indie to punk to R&B, here are the most anticipated albums scheduled for release before fall.
Due Date: June 24
Running on the success of their 2011 EP, Cut it Out, Kitten has already toured with behemoths No Doubt, Paramore, and The Neighbourhood, has featured Ariel Pink in its latest music video, "Money", and, at the ripe age of 19, frontwoman Chloe Chaidez has been called the new face of alt-rock, whatever that might mean. After years of building curiosity and expectations, Kitten's debut full-length is finally due in June.

4. The Fresh and Onlys
House of Spirits
Due Date: June 10
The Fresh and Onlys are the kind of slow-burning band that sneak up on you. A leading face of the Bay Area's new garage rock movement, they transcend that label through a mix of shimmering psychedelia, hints of '80s new wave, and indie pop. Their last LP, 2012's Long Slow Dance, was a favorite around these parts, and we're looking forward to House of Spirits with great anticipation.

3. Trash Talk
Due Date: May 27
Known for their on-stage insanity and love of circle pits, Sacramento hardcore punk band Trash Talk doesn't hold back. They've played Coachella and are the only non hip-hop group signed to Odd Future Records; in the process they've exposed lots of rap crowds to something they might now see otherwise. Hopefully No Peace will retain the energy of their live show.

2. La Sera
Hour of the Days
Due Date: May 13
After the legendary DIY rock girl group Vivian Girls disbanded earlier this year, bassist "Kickball Katy" Goodman had more time to focus on her side project, La Sera. As a solo artist, she is free to "be an emotional wreck and not hide it," she's said. Hour of the Days features Goodman's folk-twang and substantial stories.

Rising R&B star Banks nearly took over the internet in 2013, topping many lists of artists to watch. The Tarzana native delivers soulful, smoky vocals on Goddess tracks like "This Is What It Feels Like" and "Waiting Game," which have already topped a million listens on Soundcloud. Make no mistake, though; her voice may be a slow burn, but Banks is poised to blow up.
