Sole And The Skyrider Band Come To L.A., Release Bizarro PSA Series and Free EP (MP3s)
Anticon founder Sole will be performing tonight at the Knitting Factory backed by L.A.-based three-piece, Skyrider. Earlier this week, that combined outfit, Sole And The Skyrider Band, released its sophomore LP, Plastique, via Connecticut-based Fake Four Inc. -- not, as would be expected, through Anticon. A recent interview with the San Francisco Bay Guardian, implied Sole was looking for a label with "a more traditional rap profile." Fake Four is also home to Leimert Park hip-hop veteran Myka 9.
So far the collaboration has yielded a free downloadable EP (click here to get Battlefields , which includes an appearance by The Notwist singer Markus Acher, and a remix by Tobacco of Black Moth Super Rainbow) and a pretty hilarious/disturbing set of PSAs, stacked below for your enjoyment.
But first, a word from the man himself:
"Leading up to the release of our new album Plastique, we wanted to promote the ideas contained within the album in a different way. Drunk backstage at a recent Andrew Bird show, Dosh suggested I make PSAs. I thought this was a great idea, so I hit up my boy Chris Eoe, who used to work for Current TV and asked if he'd be interested in helping. He nailed the aesthetic perfectly... some people can't tell if they're real [or] a joke, but as always with my music, it's a little bit of both."
