Slavic Soul Party! Record Release! At the Echo!
There are many bands with exclamation points in their names, but few deserve the firework of the punctuation world more than Slavic Soul Party!. The incendiary New York collective utilizes every in the Gypsy musical arsenal--from tubas and clarinets to accordion and bass drum--to blast forth a conflagration of hyperspeed Slavic floor-stompers.
But that is not to say that Slavic Soul Party! is one trick donkey; their sound sometimes approaches drum and bass velocity, layered with the snake-charming clarinets and funky bass bleats like Bootsy was on the tuba. Funkier than Balkan Beat Box, and less punky than Gogol Bordello, Slavic Soul Party! is what their name implies: a party band. Their fifth album, Taketron, drops today, and the Brooklyn favorites--comprised of members from across the world--pay homage to Eastern European history and the hybridized American music millieu at the Echo tonight.
Get your Balkan, um, on!
(Sorry about that.)
