Quincy Jones To Rerecord 'We Are the World' As Haiti Benefit: Who Should Be Invited?

Several news outlets report that last night legendary producer Quincy Jones attended a private charity dinner where he revealed that he will be convening several stars next Monday at an undisclosed Los Angeles studio to rerecord "We Are the World." The new version will be done as a benefit for the victims of the recent Haiti earthquake.

The Huffington Post points out that "Jones would not say who will perform on the track 'because we've got to make sure we've got who we got,' but that the revamped song will feature a new roster of all-star musicians."

This, by the way, will mark the first time such a galaxy of stars came together at a Southland stage to sing epically since 2008, when Jimmy Kimmel gathered Joan Jett, Fallout Boy, Huey Lewis, Cameron Diaz, Don Cheadle, Josh Groban and many, many others to tell Sarah Silverman that he was fucking Ben Affleck. (Fast forward to 3:07 for the WatW pastiche).

Do you have any ideas who should be invited? We think Lionel Ritchie, Stevie Wonder, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen and Dylan (yes, that Dylan) should reprise their roles from 1985. We'd also like to see them joined by Nicole Ritchie, Adam Lambert, Susan Boyle, Beyonce, The Mighty Boosh, Eminem, Uffie, members of HEALTH, and the CGI ghost of Johnny Cash. For the climax, they could all duet with outtakes from This Is It.

Or else, they could hire a bunch of impersonators like Jarvis Cocker did in the brilliant video for "Bad Cover Version."

From the HuffPost:

The original 1985 hit, written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, featured Bruce Springsteen, Cyndi Lauper, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel and Tina Turner, among others.
Jones discussed the track and his other charitable endeavors at a private party Wednesday celebrating watchmaker Audemars Piguet's donation of $1 million to the Quincy Jones Foundation.
