Party Pick of the Week: Outkast Tribute Party
Honoring the storytellers: Outkast's Big Boi and Andre 3000

Honoring the words, the beats and the uniquely soulful style of Outkast and their extended family of freaky funksters, this one should go way beyond the hoopla of “Hey Ya.”
L.A.’s own Mr. Choc (Beat Junkies, former Power 106) and San Francisco’s Sake One are helming the decks all night. They’re promising to pay tribute to Andre 3000 and Big Boi (together and solo), as well as Goodie Mob, Cee-Lo, Society of Soul, Slimm Cutta, Organized Noize, Killer Mike, Sleepy Brown, Janelle Monáe, Big Gipp, Cool Breeze, Kurupt, Erykah Badu, Joi, Mystikal and many more.
This will not be your basic hip-hop hoedown on any level — just eclectic, hypnotic jams that hit the spot, ranging from fresh and clean grooves to down-and-dirty grinds. Opening set by a guy who knows a thing or two about celebrating influential soul brothas: Motown on Mondays’ DJ Expo.
1822 W. Sunset Blvd., Echo Park Fri., May 8, 9 p.m. | $10 advance; $15 at the door | 21+ | footlongdevelopment.com
