Over the Weekend: Superbad Spotting at the Echoplex, Plus Classic Goth and Santa Claus Pub Crawl
There were holiday parties galore this weekend, with events catering to indie rockers, goths and people who just want to dress like Santa Claus and hit a couple pubs. Keep reading to see what we did.
Long-running indie clubs Underground and Hang the DJs joined forces this Friday for a special holiday benefit event at the Echoplex. In addition to the clubs' residents, the party brought in a variety of guest DJs as well as bands Spiritvine and Doll and the Kicks. But the moment that's firing up Facebook is when Christopher Mintz-Plasse, the actor who played McLovin in Superbad, arrived at the party. Check out more in Jay Oligny's photo gallery.
With three different routes to follow, the First Annual Santa Monica Pub Crawl was a like a choose your own adventure story, but with lots of booze and lots of St. Nick. Photographer Colin Young-Wolff followed the ample crowd to Rusty's Surf Ranch, Ye Olde King's Head, Harvelle's, Renee's and Shangri-La for his photo gallery.
Saturday night, fans of "old school" gothic and industrial music headed to Koreatown's Monte Cristo for Disko.Nekro. From Bauhaus to Danielle Dax, DJs Xian and Michael Stewart schooled the audience in the classics. See more in Shannon Cottrell's photo gallery.
