It's not enough that Los Angeles beat scene figurehead Flying Lotus has a feverishly anticipated new album due out next month.
Nor that he's wrangled a host of exceptional collaborators for Cosmogramma, one of which has a name that rhymes with Nom Stork.
No, FlyLo needs more, which is why you're about to meet an exceptionally smooth, rising neo-soul talent by the name of José James.
Our own FlyLo produced a handful of tracks that appear on the record, including the titular one (download it below) and the first single, "Code" (see the video below).
This isn't James' first West Coast dabbling. In 2008, he released a cover of Freestyle Fellowship's "Park Bench People."
It's a good sound for Flying Lotus, who stretches out over the soulful grooves, giving the subtle strength of James' voice all the space it needs to shine.
