Mishka Grand Opening To Feature Andy Milonakis, Wavves, Best Coast, more
If you aren't planning on spending your Saturday evening getting high on the sweet Saharan soul of Tinariwen, West Coast Sound seriously suggests you get low, low, low with the underground sounds of three excellent SoCal bands who are helping to ring in the the new Echo Park branch of New York-based clothing line/boutique Мишка (pronounced "Mishka").
San Diego noise-pop train wreck Wavves headlines an RSVP-only night at the Echoplex with support from Eagle Rock's rising surf-scuzz duo Best Coast and unsung Echo Park punk-rock heroes The Franks. As if that weren't enough, comedian Andy Milonakis will be hosting while Franki Chan and two others DJs do their thing as well. These Russians don't eff around.
Мишка opened up its flagship store in Brooklyn just last year, and word is a Tokyo shop is on its way. The local store is Echo Lake adjacent, at 547 Echo Park Avenue. The company is loosely affiliated with Diplo's Mad Decent label, and the new location is expected to feature music and designer toys in addition to clothing. Мишка wear seems to split the difference between indie hipster fancyboys and skinny-pants-ed urban types, and apparently mostly naked girls like to sport it as well.
To attend the so far unpublicized event, send your name to firstname.lastname@example.org. Click more to see the NSFW ladies of Мишка juxtaposed with music from the night's bands.
Мишка puts out a yearly calendar in association with
porn erotica site Stagg Street. Here are some slightly censored outtakes from its 2010 offering. There are ways to find them uncensored, but we'll leave that to you. Is it wrong that we prefer the music?
