Michael Cera Joins Mister Heavenly's All-Star Indie Lineup for West Coast Tour
Cera bassing the shit out of shit.
Tuesday night Sub Pop's newly minted kinda super group Mister Heavenly revealed their new bass player: Michael Cera. The Jesse Eisenberg look-a-like will hold down the low end for the band on their tour with Passion Pit. Mister Heavenly already has some indietastic members, including Man Man's Honus Honus, Nick Diamonds (Thorburn) from The Unicorns/Islands, and Joe Plummer from Modest Mouse, so the addition of Cera can only make it more, um, wallflowerier (?). Of course, bass was Cera's weapon of choice in Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World and Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist, but how did he navigate those four strings on Tuesday? Seattle Weekly's Bryden McGrath had the scoop: "Well, it's safe to say no one really expected to see who was on bass: actor Michael Cera, who showed off his musical skills in this year's Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. The funnyman had cell phone cameras on him during the entire 30-minute set, of which about half of Passion Pit's eventual audience enjoyed. His awkward, typecast humor even came through during one song when Cera lost the strap of his white teardrop bass, finished the song, asked the jubilant hipsters if they liked the Barenaked Ladies and proceeded to start 'One Week' before Mister Heavenly quickly launched into another original tune."
West Coast Sound called up Sub Pop yesterday and they confirmed that Cera would join the band for the rest of the west coast tour, but not permanently. You can see Cera at his, um, bassiest on December 7th when Mister Heavenly visits the Palladium with Passion Pit.
If you can't wait, we're sure it looks a little something like this:
Or maybe more like their show in Portland Wednesday night:
