Live in L.A.: The Henry Clay People, Health, Best Coast, Blake Mills, Jaguar Love
The Henry Clay People's jagged, college-educated barroom rock has wormed its way into a lot of Angeleno hearts the past couple of years, its classic riff-slinging and manic shout-singing somehow turning the high anxiety of "Working Part Time" into catharsis. The quintet's third album, "Somewhere on the Golden Coast," arrives today via TBD Records (home to the likes of Radiohead and Autolux), and somewhere in its 33 minutes on sonic comfort food you're likely to find side dishes of dark humor, biting commentary and twentysomething regret. The band celebrates the release, and warms up for a summer tour supporting Silversun Pickups, by playing Spaceland tonight with Olin and the Moon and Hectors.
Elsewhere: Two weeks before its second remix LP "Disco2" is released, noisy L.A. quartet Health kicks off a big tour at the Echoplex supported by scene darling Best Coast, as well as Indian Jewelry and Gold Panda. ... Ex-Simon Dawes guitarist Blake Mills, most recently a touring hand for the likes of Jenny Lewis, Julian Casablancas and Band of Horses, hosts the guest-filled "An Evening With Blake Mills" at Bordello. ... And record shop in-store performances of note: Brooklyn's Suckers at Amoeba and locals the Young Veins at Origami, both at 7 p.m.
Also: The Good Life and the Parson Red Heads at the Glass House; Jaguar Love at Cinespace; Bushwalla and Pigeon John at the Troubadour; Primal Fear at the House of Blues; All Wrong and the Plans Change at the Silverlake Lounge; Kelda at the Hotel Cafe; the Shakers and Still Standing at the Viper Room; Headhunter at the Echo; the Soul of John Black at Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach; Micky and the Motorcars at the Mint; and Alpha Consumer (Andrew Bird's sideman) at Largo.
P.S.: Grace Potter & the Nocturnals' scheduled show at the Roxy, which appears on some concert calendars, has been canceled.
