Live in L.A.: Make Music Pasadena (with Matt & Kim, Natalia Lafourcade, Warpaint), Opening Night at the Bowl, Freestyle Fellowship, Jamie Lidell, Erykah Badu, Billy Joe Shaver

Pasadena is used to its parades, but on Saturday its denizens will be traipsing around Old Town to get an earful of music rather than an eyeful of rose pedals. What's impressive about the annual Make Music Pasadena is how many constituencies the festival is serving over one day. With more than 50 performances scattered around 17 venues, the free, all-ages shows feature artists with impressive resum├ęs (veteran rocker JD Souther, jazz legend Barbara Morrison and Latin Grammy-nominated chanteuse Natalia Lafourcade); something for young pop masses (Matt & Kim, the Antlers); and a smattering of SoCal's most promising up-and-comers (Warpaint, Voxhaul Broadcast, Moses Campbell and the Growlers). The Hipster Nation might not get to the gentrified outback very much, but Pasadena might be worth the trip on Saturday. You can hold your breath when you walk past the Gap store.
