Lightning in a Bottle 2016 Will Feature a Full Day With No Music

If a music festival opened its doors a full day before anyone played a note of music, would you get there early? The Do LaB, organizers of the popular annual campout festival Lightning in a Bottle, is hoping you will.

Inspired by the Boom Festival in Portugal, which opens early so attendees can set up camp and get the lay of the land, the 11th annual Lightning in a Bottle has added an extra day to its Memorial Day weekend run — but it's a day in which the festival's many stages will be dormant. Instead, LIB organizers are hoping attendees will use the extra day to relax, connect with friends old and new, and attend some of the workshops and classes that will already be in full swing and are also (as we reported on last year) a big part of the overall LIB experience.

"With so many participants already acclimated and fully reeling in the LiB vibes, Do LaB hopes the entire festival experience will be electrified with more connective energy than ever before," the organizers said in a press release.

Also setting up shop early: the Grand Artique, a Wild West-inspired, "fully immersive trading post/general store" with vendors and live entertainment (presumably, on day one, of the non-musical variety). There will also be speakers, yoga classes and other activities. Day two of the now six-day festival will also feature limited music in just two areas, with the full musical offerings kicking into gear on day three.

The full lineup for LIB 2016, which will return to Lake San Antonio Recreation Area Wednesday, May 25, through Monday, May 30, has yet to be announced. Past performers have included the likes of Flume, Moby, Amon Tobin, John Digweed, Odesza and Bassnectar.

A 24-hour "flash sale" for discounted tickets, including an early arrival pass (with all-important first dibs on the most centrally located campsites) will begin on Monday, Jan. 4 at 10 a.m., with general admission tickets going on sale the following day.
