Lady Gaga's Born This Way Could Set Record for Highest Opening Sales in a Decade
Lady Gaga's Born This Way will debut with first-week sales of at least a million units, far outpacing earlier projections, thanks to explosive sales at Amazon, which priced the album at 99 cents for two days this week.
Selling a million in week one is not easy--for example Michael Jackson's Thriller was, at the peak of its popularity, moving a million units per week. But it sold under 200,000 copies during the first week of its release.
And the last time any record moved this fast in its first week, it was 2001. The album? 'NSYNC's Celebrity.
Oh and for those keeping track, Madonna's most recent full length, 2008's Hard Candy, sold only 280,000 copies the first week.
