In a surprise last-minute announcement, FYF Fest has dropped Frank Ocean from its lineup as Saturday's headliner and replaced him with an even bigger draw: Kanye West.
The lineup change was revealed late Thursday afternoon by FYF's publicity firm, Motormouth Media, who in a press release said: "Kanye West will now headline Saturday night's Main Stage. Frank Ocean has decided on his own terms to cancel his appearance."
The phrasing of that second sentence seems meant to preempt any speculation that Ocean withdrew begrudgingly, either because he was unprepared to perform or due to slow ticket sales. As of Thursday, two-day tickets and VIP passes for the festival were still available, although single-day tickets had long since sold out.
Ocean is rumored to be in the final stages of preparing the release of his next album, Boys Don't Cry, the long-awaited follow-up to 2012's Channel Orange. The album has originally been slated for a July released, based on a "#JULY2015" hashtag that appeared on the album's microsite.
This will be West's first appearance at FYF and first L.A. area performance since headlining KIIS-FM's Wango Tango festival in May of this year.
