Not unlike his heaping head of dreads, Fiji-born and U.K./U.S.-based beatsmith FreQ Nasty's DJ style is a tangled, multitextured cluster, with sounds and influences ranging from hip-hop and reggae to rock and electro. Nasty was a pioneer in the early U.K. breakbeat scene, and his current genre-bludgeoning sets still retain the big breaks, but the tempos and tunes are more varied, sizzling and swaying in freaky yet always-funky ways. Gotta love the name too. King King, 6555 Hollywood Blvd., Hlywd.; Fri., Feb. 8, 10 p.m.-4 a.m.; over 21; $20. www.bazaarla.com.
Win or lose, nominees Dirty South (Best Remixed Recording: Kascade's "I'm Sorry") and Jeremy Dawson from Shiny Toy Guns (Best Electronic Dance Album) are set to take to the decks Sunday, along with LA Riots, for a post-Grammy groove-a-thon at Elevate downtown, thrown by Club Giant. It's free to get in but you have to RSVP and get there early. 811 Wilshire Blvd., dwntwn.; Sun., Feb. 10, 9 p.m.-3 a.m.; over 21. RSVP at www.clubgiant.com.
