Gitmo Torture Music: Songs That Will Break You

Yesterday, the Associated Press reported that bands including Pearl Jam, R.E.M., Rage Against the Machine, and Nine Inch Nails have protested the use of their music played at high volumes as an interrogation technique to "break" detainees at Guantanamo Bay. The musicians teamed up with the National Campaign to Close Guantanamo to speak out against the controversial tactic, wherein detainees were subjected to loops of loud songs. According to the AP, songs from other musicians (and one cat food commercial) were used on detainees as well. "Based on documents that already have been made public and interviews with former detainees, the archive says the playlist featured cuts from AC/DC, Britney Spears, the Bee Gees, Marilyn Manson and many other groups. The Meow mix cat food jingle, the Barney theme song and an assortment of Sesame Street tunes also were pumped into detainee cells."

West Coast Sound does not condone any use of music in this manner.* But if we did, which we don't, we would submit the following replacement songs -- that should never be used -- as excruciating addenda to this playlist.**
