FYF 2016 Lineup Will Feature Kendrick Lamar, Grace Jones, LCD Soundsystem
FYF Fest revealed its 2016 lineup today, and it's a doozie, with headliners Kendrick Lamar, LCD Soundsystem, Tame Impala and Grace Jones leading a packed two-day bill of rock, hip-hop, pop and electronic acts.
Not counting next month's Coachella appearances, this marks LCD Soundsystem's first L.A. show since they played the Hollywood Bowl in 2010. It's also Kendrick's only West Coast festival appearance of 2016 and Grace Jones' only confirmed festival date anywhere. (That alone pretty much makes FYF 2016 worth the $199 price of admission — regardless of whether she sticks to her recent semi-naked stage wardrobe or cooks up something even more outrageous.)
Further down the lineup flier, there are some other noteworthy goodies, including a one-off performance of Stay What You Are, the 2001 album by New Jersey emo standard-bearers Saves the Day (FYF honcho Sean Carlson has clearly been taking notes at the wildly successful Taking Back Tuesday emo night) and the first U.S. appearance in five years by beloved French electronic duo Air. Beach House, Grimes, Father John Misty, Young Thug and Ty Segall are just a few of the other acts likely to be big draws with the FYF faithful.
The lineup overall isn't a radical departure from past FYFs, but after some observers (ahem) criticized last year's FYF for being a little too heavy on sad crooners and light on the punk and hardcore of the festival's Fuck Yeah! roots, Carlson seems to have made a more concerted effort to keep the rock kids happy. Besides local garage-rock king Segall, the 2016 incarnation of FYF features Black Lips, Viet Cong, Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats and, perhaps most promisingly, two totally uncompromising noise-rock beasts: Steve Albini's Shellac and the Blood Brothers/Locust/Yeah Yeah Yeahs supergroup, Head Wound City.
See the flier below for the complete lineup.
The festival takes place Aug. 27 and 28 at its usual home, Exposition Park (no word yet on whether the recently closed Sports Arena, which has served as the festival's indoor space in the past, will be temporarily reopened for the occasion). Tickets go on sale this Friday, April 1, at fyffest.com. In addition to the $199 two-day pass, there will also be single-day tickets available for $125 and VIP passes for $339.
