Exclusive: Mexican Institute Of Sound's "Es-Toy" Video Premiere
Nacional Records

The easiest way to get your music released is to be the president of a record company.

That's the position Camilo Lara held as the head of EMI Mexico. The occasional DJ used to only be famous among his friends for his year-end holiday mixes. Upon their encouragement, the bowler-hatted Lara has released four albums under the moniker "Mexican Institute Of Sound." The most recent is the politically conscious Politico, and he's premiering the video for one of its singles, "Es-Toy," exclusively on West Coast Sound, below.

Known for using traditional Mexican samples in an electronic context, Lara keeps the synthetic element intact on Politico with an actual band creating the sounds. Blaring horns propel Politico's inherent danceability on the tracks "El Jefe" and "Revolucion!" which is balanced by "Mexico" and "Cumbia Meguro."

The video for "Es-Toy," the second single from Politico, is reminiscent of hip-hop party videos -- except everyone is fully clothed and wholly un-styled.

Upcoming Events

As a bonus, here's a free download of DJ/producer Atropolis' remix of "Es-Toy":

Lara plays a series of DJ dates around Southern California this week: The Mint in Los Angeles on September 18th, Brixton South Bay in Redondo Beach on September 19th, Subsuelo at Eastside Luv in Boyle Heights on September 19th, and Afrofunke at Zanzibar in Santa Monica on September 20th. These DJ gigs are warm-ups for the Mexican Institute Of Sound live show coming stateside in October. Lara will be performing with a full band at KCRW's Masquerade Ball on October 27th. This will be followed by an appearance on Morning Becomes Eclectic on October 30th.
