Nobody loves vinyl records more than Josh Davis, better known as the hip-hop and sampling innovator DJ Shadow. The front door of his house even looks like a turntable. The man walks the walk.

But even the most ardent collector has to free up shelf space occasionally. So next weekend, Sept. 10-11, Shadow is hauling hundreds of LPs, 45s and 12-inches down to Rappcats, the tiny storefront in Highland Park out of which Now-Again Records hosts pop-up stores and special events. He'll also come toting 8-tracks, cassettes, DVDs, VHS tapes, posters and other collectors' catnip, as well as a limited-edition vinyl single of his track "The Sideshow" available only at this sale.

The "First Annual DJ Shadow Storage Sale" also promises to offer "grip-free pricing" (most items marked $15 or less), Intelligentsia coffee and rotating stock on both days (i.e., you can come down on Sunday and not worry about getting only sloppy seconds).

Why the sudden fire sale? “These are all records I have other copies of, and I’ve decided that I don’t need to keep multiples," Shadow  saysin an announcement on the Rappcats website. "Think of it as a yearlong thrift-store hunt consolidated into two days.”

As one of the most famously astute samplers in all of hip-hop, Shadow is likely to have some serious rarities even among his castoffs. He reportedly will be at the sale and probably will be happy to drop some knowledge on the rarer titles, though you can bet there will be a long line of customers hoping to grab his attention.

Rappcats is located at 5636 York Blvd. in Highland Park, and the sale will run from noon to 6 p.m. each day (Saturday, Sept. 10, and Sunday, Sept. 11). Happy crate digging!
