Trip Threat

Club kids, mark your calendars

By Lina Lecaro

Published on February 28, 2008

It goes without saying that the two MSTRKRFT/Z-Trip shows this week will be packed, pulsating and filled with hoodies and day-glo and bad haircuts. After all, indie-heads with a dance fetish (and vice versa) all seem to bow to the cybersexy raveish jams of the mustachioed mix-men in MSTRKRFT. But when it comes to rock & roll-infused mashes that are equally complex but more accessible (and less ironic), Z-Trip is the supreme deck destroyer. Z can make that prog anthem you've heard a hundred times (and that club banger you'd never be caught dead shakin' to in another setting) seem fresh and fierce, like a booty-busting bully ya gotta obey. Speaking of which, Shepard Fairey and LA Riots spin beforehand, so early arrival is recommended. MSTRKRFT/Z-Trip at the Henry Fonda Theatre, 6126 Hollywood Blvd., Hlywd.; Fri., Feb. 29; Also at El Rey Theatre, 5515 Wilshire Blvd., L.A.; Sun. March 2. Tickets: www.goldenvoice.com.

Your buns will also burn at Ass & Titties, the ghetto-tech fave which triumphantly returns this week with guests DJ Funk (Dance Mania/Chicago) and DJ Sega (Mad Decent/Philly), plus locals Dark Alley, Blu Jemz and Pube$. Echoplex, 1154 Glendale Blvd., Echo Park; Fri., Feb. 29, 10 p.m.-2 a.m.; $15 at the door.

One more DJ dynamo to mark on your calendar: Jurassic 5 DJ Nu-Mark, who pops into the Rootdown for what's sure to be a funk-for-all on the floor. Little Temple, 4519 Santa Monica Blvd., Silver Lake; Thurs., March 6, 10 p.m.-2 a.m.; $8 at the door.

Rest up those rumps.
