Shake L.A. With Maurice de la Falaise, Roro and others

By Lina Lecaro

Published on July 10, 2008

Opportunities to step up and sway on L.A. dance floors are everywhere. But getting squeezed and shaken — and liking it — that's another story. A returning summertime favorite and a brand-new beat bag (both with wonderfully multiculti crowds) promise a bit of both this Friday night. The creators of Automatico, a Latino-hipster heavy pop and electro party, debuts its newest offshoot called Shake L.A. in downtown L.A. With DJs including Maurice de la Falaise, Roro and a surprise guest, plus MCs Dana Dane and Audrey, we expect this one to live up to its name. It's 18 and over, so restless exuberance will definitely be the order of the evening. A groove-heavier but no less spirited vibe will surely be had at the relaunch of Funky Lemonade (formerly at Zanzibar in Santa Monica), which brings the impressive deck skills of DJs Hapa (KTLA) and Mr. Choc (KDAY) to the heart of Hollywood. The Lemon lads have joined forces with their buds from Bounce Rock Skate and Soul Food under the banner group "Soul Collective" to take over Boardner's every week, so if you can't make this one, rest assured that now you can enjoy sweet flava there every Friday. Shake L.A. at Sabor Lounge, 847 S. Union St., dwntwn.; Fri., July 11 (and every second Fri. after). See www.myspace.com.automatico. Funky Lemonade at Boardner's, 1652 N. Cherokee Ave., Hlywd.; Fri., July 11. See www.myspace.com/funkylemonade.
