Expect a globe-trotting techno trip at Compression this week. The monthly club has been shaking up the King King for two years now, presenting up-’n’-coming and established dance music artists and DJs from all ends of the earth in an intimate, organic setting that the superclubs lack, and it’s still pumping strong. For this celebration, promoter Robtronik brings in Radio Slave, a.k.a. Matt Edwards, a U.K. fave known for his progressive yet soulful approach to minimal techno; Berlin-based beatsman Samim offers tribal-tinged techno, much from his highly regarded new release, Flow; and Switzerland-based groover Lee Van Dowski spins tech-house that’s complex yet universal with a cinematic feel. Who needs jet-setting when clubs like Compression bring it all to you in one place? Here’s hoping for many more candles to come on the club’s cake.
