Dance Club Pick: Spunk and Roses

A "Lady Gaga–free" zone is promised at the premiere of DJ Paul V's newest club, Spunk, which hopes to conjure the eclectic energy and pansexual spirit of clubs of yore like Spit, Fuck, Sucker and V's own Dragstrip 66. What you can expect sound-wise: indie, alt-rock and electro beats not unlike V used to spin on Indie 103.1 when it was on the airwaves, and a mixed crowd consisting of "queers 'n' queens and their cool straight friends." Matt Cornwall (Fubar) joins on the decks, and other amusements include a performance from the Amazeballs (Jessica & Hunter), a video premiere by Nadya Ginsburg and more. Echoplex, 1145 Glendale Blvd., Echo Park; Fri., April 9. attheecho.com. The third annual War of the Roses should be pretty epic, especially for those who've followed Southern and Northern Cali's rave scene from the beginning. This reunion of techno and house pioneers the Funky Tekno Tribe will bring the biggies together for one night, "no time slots, no boundaries." DJ Dan, Donald Glaude, Jeno, Barry Weaver, Hector Cardenas, Jason Blakemore and others will take the main stage, while a masquerade ballroom (with drum-&-bass DJs, art installations and live art from Do-Lab) will add to the euphoria. Lot 613, 613 Imperial St., dwntwn.; Sat., April 10. Info at remixtheunderground.com.
