Boogie Wonderland at Nocturnal Festival
Not sure what happened to the “wonderland” part of the name (did Lewis Carroll send ’em a cease-and-desist?), but the 14th annual Nocturnal Festival still promises a surreal, down-the-rabbit-hole-style experience with Alice-themed areas and top-notch electronic-music talent featured in each. In “The Labyrinth,” Above and Beyond, Infected Mushroom and Christopher Lawrence offer en-trancing textures to get lost in, while “The Upside Down Room” gets topsy-turvy with the technically breathtaking beat work of Richie Hawtin, Deep Dish’s Dubfire, and Dirty Birdy Claude Vonstroke. Dish’s other half, Sharam, will be in “The Big Top Tent” along with Junkie XL, Kascade and Uberzone vs. Bassbin Twins, and neon nomads are sure to flock to So Sweet’s “Electrodome,” where DJ Craze, Digitalism and Le Castle Vania rave ’n’ rock. Other turntable talents taking part include local house legend Doc Martin, Miguel Migs and the Planet of Drums boys (Dieselboy, AK1200, Dara and Messinian), bombarding with even more beats. This is seriously one of the strongest Nocturnal lineups ever. And with circus performers, art sculptures, blacklight-paint walls, rides and even Silver Lake’s own I&I Soundsystem pumping out the reggae, it’s worth the trip in more ways than one. NOS Events Center, 689 S. E St., San Bernardino; Sat., Sept. 13, 6 p.m.-4 a.m.; all ages; $60 presale. www.nocturnalfestival.com.
