As beachside developments continue to edge out the minnows, old-school bars like The Shellback Tavern in Manhattan Beach are increasingly rare. Just 50 yards east of the ocean, the beer pours cold at the Shellback and you can still find tequila shots for a dollar. Twelve bucks will net you a steak and a beer on Tuesday nights (don't say we didn't warn you), and on weekends you can try your stomach at two fried eggs and a plate of hash browns. Otherwise, it's all about the booze at the Shellback, thanks to owner Bob Beverly, and the endless supply of bikini-topped ladies and board shorts-wearing men who have the bar humming all night long.
