Paper or Plastik Cafe | Mid-Wilshire/ Hancock Park | Coffeehouse | Restaurant

Oddly enough, people don't flock to Paper or Plastik Cafe on Pico Boulevard for the coffee. Yes, there are pour-over bars and a fine-looking Synesso machine that pumps Intelligentsia roasts through its veins, but the perpetually packed loft-like space fills up with oglers even before the coffee and tea crowd can find a place to sit. That's due in no small part to the design of the place, which has a sort of airy chic vibe with mismatched chairs and tall warehouse windows. But you'll also find lots of eye candy emerging from the MiMoDa dance studio next door, which was the original venture of owners Yasha and Anya Michelson. Patrons love to snap up the fresh baked goods from nearby La Maison Du Pain or stick around long enough for an early evening craft beer. Just be sure to save your seat if you get up; the competition is fierce.
