This burger joint on the border of South Los Angeles and Compton is perhaps most famous for its Hawkins Special, which, weighing in at five pounds, consists of three one-pound burger patties, cheese, bacon, chilies, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, fried eggs, pastrami, mustard, a butterflied hot dog, pickles and mayo. (Phew!) But the 29-year-old restaurant is also home to one of the area's largest burritos, delicious chili-cheese fries and an outstanding double cheeseburger. They’re open for breakfast too, offering up pancakes, French toast and eggs from 7 a.m. on during the week and 8 a.m. on over the weekends.
