E. Waldo Ward & Son | Pasadena and vicinity | Grocery Stores | General
Half the fun of shopping at the Sierra Madre specialty shop E. Waldo Ward & Son is getting here. The Ward family has been in the business of making artisan preserves dating back to 1891, when New Jersey-native Edwin Waldo Ward Sr. bought 30 acres of citrus land in the picturesque foothills town. Now, a little over three acres remain, including the family home, canning factory and tiny gift shop above the garage that are barely visible off the street. Current caretakers Richard Ward and his son, Jeff, keep the shop stocked with preserves, jams, jellies and marmalades, in addition to condiments, grilling sauces, syrups and pickled fruit (all starting at around $5). If you’re looking for something unique to the area – home of the annual Wistaria Festival – don’t leave without a jar of Wistaria jelly made from real Wistaria petals.
