It has always been worth the drive south of USC to the Mercado la Paloma, if only to order a few of chef Gilberto Cetina's fantastic cochinita pibil tacos. After Cetina closed his Macarthur Park restaurant and the little market stall became the only place to get his Yucatecan cuisine, it's been even more worth the trip. Sit in the pretty marketplace and order the antojitos, the tacos, the tamales, or anything else on Cetina's menu -- and do not forget the house-made habanero sauce, which you can also get to-go. --Amy Scattergood
