Though the name remains the same, Saugus Speedway in Santa Clarita no longer plays host to stock car racing events – at least not since the mid-1990s, when the aging grandstands were deemed unsafe and torn down. Still, the remnants of its motorsports past are everywhere, from the 1/3 mile paved oval track to the checkered start / finish line. These days you'll find swap meet-goers invading the speedway on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The selection is diverse: hand-crafted beadwork, knife sharpening, plastic toys and a farmers market. The big-ticket items (hot tubs, mattresses) sit up front, while the old, discarded gems rest against the railway tracks.
