Step through the door of the woefully undersung Papilles Bistro, in the corner of a strip mall tucked into the armpit of Franklin Avenue and the 101 freeway, and you find yourself in a homey space that’s reminiscent of a neighborhood restaurant in New York or Paris, the type of place untouched by time or trends. Chef Jordan Rosas Jordan has created a simple menu, with decadent items. You can start with a foie mousse snack with raspberry, rainier cherries and pistachio, move on to the turnip ginger velouté with tofu, green garlic, furikake and radish, then fill up on the flat iron steak and finish with an assortment of cheeses. Now that's a meal.
