In the heart of summer travel season, the folks at Metro have decided to shut down the main artery to LAX, where 200,000 passengers a day were expected this weekend.

At least they warned us.

Century Boulevard at Aviation is scheduled to be closed for 57 hours starting at 9 tonight. L.A.'s mayor, Metro and the Los Angeles Police Department are urging travelers to plan ahead and use public transportation if possible:

You were sad that the Dodgers didn't make it to the World Series. But rejoice: Los Angeles is the national champion in one sport:

Getting to work.

Yep, the annual Tom Tom Traffic Index of the Americas is out and L.A. tops the list of United States cities with the worst congestion.

This just in: Your commute tomorrow is going to blow.

That's according to the good people at INRIX, who use complicated but oh-so-precise forecasting to explain what's happening on L.A.'s roadways (and, OK, sell their traffic app, too).

Spokeswoman Chryst'l Sanchez tells the Weekly that INRIX's forecasts show a 39 percent increase over normal weekday traffic in Los Angeles tomorrow, the Friday before Labor Day. All those people trying to skip town, wouldn't you know?

Tired of seeing street closures, from film shoots to neighborhood fairs to farmers markets, around every other corner?

A lot of businesses and residents in downtown Los Angeles are too, at least according to what police say. So there's been some push back against closing down streets, and one of the victims of this tug of war is the new Downtown Flea Market, its organizer says.

If you think the 405 just got a little more Camageddon-like this week, you're right.

In fact, if you'll recall, Carmageddon was the weekend 405 closure in 2011 that turned out to be a dud. People far and wide avoided the area, and traffic was fine. But if you shut down the Sunset Boulevard off-ramp from the northbound 405 in Bel Air, all hell breaks loose:

Obamajam returns to L.A. today.

But something tells us this President Obama, on his final term and begging Congress to do something, anything to support just one of his policy initiatives, isn't going to clog Los Angeles traffic like the superstar Obama of yesteryear did. In any case, police are preparing, and so should you:

The good news, if there is any, is that a tanker fire that essentially turned the 5 freeway near Atwater Village into a parking lot happened on a Saturday morning, when most of us weren't there.

Of course, the rest is all bad, including the fact that the northbound 5 and much of the southbound freeway would remain closed in the area this morning as crews repaired the mess:

All the pain and suffering involved in the 405 widening project might have been worth it.

Yes, a couple Carmageddons, many lane closures, and a hot mess of detours have comprised some of the Westside's worst white people problems since the iPhone switched to a new power connector. But there might just be light at the end of that tunnel:

The election is over. So why is President Obama still coming to L.A., his West Coast fund-raising piggy bank? To help get money for his pals in the U.S. Senate. They're facing a midterm election in fall.

So once again L.A. has to face the horror that is Obamajam. This morning. But there is some good news here, at least if you're twisted like us:
