See what the LAPD has to say about all this, at the bottom.

Twitter was abuzz with a report claiming to be from the hacker group Anonymous that says a terrorist attack on downtown Los Angeles high-rise buildings was possibly planned for later today.

The Pastebin post takes on the voice of the organization ("We are Anonymous. We do not forgive. We do not forget.") but has enough dubious assertions to make us take it with a grain of salt.

However, the viral heat it has created couldn't be ignored:

Los Angeles doesn't have the World Trade Center or the Pentagon. Our landmarks, like the Hollywood sign or your favorite beach, often lack the kind of targets violence-crazed terrorists crave.

But then there's LAX. Crazies around the globe know about our international airport, because it's practically a mandated stop if you're coming here from overseas. Today's attack was one of many throughout the history of L.A. International:

Updated at the bottom with Onuoha hit with federal charges. He's also been fingered as a TSA agent who allegedly told a teenager to cover herself in a well-publicized incident in June. First posted at 12:59 a.m.

A former TSA screener accused of making threats and ordering evacuations at LAX on the eve of the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks was arrested shortly before midnight, the FBI said this morning.

Members of the Joint Terrorism Task Force arrested 29-year-old Alpha Onuoha in Riverside after he allegedly left a package at LAX Tuesday afternoon before phoning in instructions that specific LAX terminals should be evacuated, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said:

Like the Boston Marathon, the route runs along many miles (about 15 in this case) of streets lined with people who will be impossible to fully vet:

Anwar al-Awlaki
  • Anwar al-Awlaki

Update: The FBI held a press conference this afternoon in Los Angeles, with agents saying the law enforcement agency devoted "extraordinary resources" to thwarting the alleged terrorists. More after the jump.

It's a familiar story. Boy meets extremist. Boy converts to radical Islam. Boy "likes" jihadi videos on Facebook. Boy shares dreams of violent jihad with FBI informant. Boy goes to jail.

In this case, the FBI has arrested four defendants from Southern California who are accused of plotting terrorist attacks in Afghanistan. The complaint (posted below) alleges that Soheil Omar Kabir, a 34-year-old Air Force veteran, introduced two younger men, Ralph Deleon, 23, and Miguel Santana, 21, to the teachings of Anwar al-Awlaki, the U.S.-born cleric who was killed in a drone strike in Yemen.

They in turn are alleged to have recruited a fourth defendant, Arifeen Gojali, 21, into a plan to travel to Afghanistan to join Al Qaeda and the Taliban.

Today marks the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the United States.

Last year the LAPD was staffed at "full strength" as a precaution. This year Officer Cleon Joseph told us it wasn't clear what the department's plans were, though we'd expect much of the same.

In the meantime the L.A. Fire Department was hosting commemorative events, including, according to spokesman Brian Humphrey:

You remember that American enemy number one that had us scared and at war for most of the last decade? Yeah, Al Qaeda.

Well, not to belittle our tragedies, but this group isn't exactly a well-honed army. It's been about as good at warfare, pound for pound, as Tom Cruise is at staying married to hot actresses.

A newly leaked report from the California Department of Fire Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) seem to prove that Al Qaeda is the San Diego fireworks of foreign forces -- a dud:
