One guy assaulted two women with a belt and his acquaintance ran over two bystanders in a spree of violence in West Hollywood yesterday, L.A. County Sheriff's Department officials allege.

A woman who was struck by a vehicle was hospitalized in critical condition, and the pair of alleged winners in the car were caught about a mile away, deputies said.

It all started with an argument between the suspects and two women in a parking lot at Robertson Boulevard and El Tovar Place shortly after 2 a.m., they said:

Authorities allege that 23-year-old Joseph Osuna of Bakersfield eventually struck the women with his belt before getting into a car driven by 29-year-old Hector Hernandez of Whittier.

Sheriff's officials said in a statement that the car then struck two bystanders who had nothing to do with the argument involving the two women:
As Hernandez and Osuna fled the scene, witness accounts stated another woman and another man, who were not involved in the altercation, were intentionally run over.
The two suspects were stopped by deputies about a mile east, on Santa Monica Boulevard and Genesee Avenue, sheriff's officials said.

Hernandez was arrested and booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon (a car) and driving under the influence, authorities said. He was jailed in lieu of $40,000.

Osuma was arrested and booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon (a belt), they said He was jailed in lieu of $30,000.

The women who were hit with the belt were okay, deputies said: One was treated at the scene and the other was taken to a hospital, but both sustained non-life-threatening injuries, they said.

The man hit by a car was treated and released, deputies said.
