It's going to be hot again today, so we're sure some of you will be "sick" and thus will seek a natural remedy - sun and sea breezes - at your favorite SoCal beach.

Be careful. It's possible government vehicles used to having the run of the beach during non-summer weekdays aren't expecting you.

Yesterday a woman on the sand was struck by a Los Angeles County maintenance truck on the Marina Peninsula south of Venice Pier:

It happened at 10:30 a.m. just north of the Marina del Rey channel, according to an L.A. County statement.
The driver of the vehicle, a veteran employee of the Department of Beaches and Harbors' beach maintenance division, had stopped to survey and arrange for the removal of several large pieces of debris near the shoreline. As he attempted to depart, turning his Nissan Xterra SUV away from the shore, the vehicle struck the woman, who had been lying face down in the sand, unseen by the driver.

County lifeguards and paramedics from the L.A. County Fire Department responded, and the the 49-year-old woman was taken to UCLA Medical Center, where she was in serious condition, county officials said.

The victim was "alert and oriented" after the accident, according to the county's statement.

Los Angeles Police Department traffic investigators interviewed the driver, and the collision was being reviewed by the Department of Beaches and Harbors, county officials said.

Be careful out there.
