We wish they all could be California girls. Sure.

But some are wishing they all could be hunky SoCal husbands, too. At least if they look like 48-year-old Tom Rice of Palm Desert.

The papi chulo won Redbook magazine's annual search for the nation's "Hottest Husband:"

Here's the crazy part: His wife, Lee, entered Rice in the contest. Now home wreckers from across the land will be gunning for her man.

Not to worry, Lee says: He's "the kind of guy who puts his family first every day."

According to Redbook, Rice is a "son of sand and surf" who works as a general contractor and calls himself father to three adult children and an 11-year-old.

We're not sure how he gets in some wave riding from all the way out in Palm Desert, but more power to him for doing it.

The magazine calls him "the sweetest, handsomest dude."

Rice beat out 1,500 other would-be hotties and 25 finalists. The couple won a trip to the Caribbean nation of Curaçao. Maybe he can find some waves there, too.
